"夫は定年後、現役の人の住む住宅地から離れたいと言い出した。
車で遠出していろいろな地を捜すのは結構新鮮で面白かったけれど私は現実の生活や人との繋がりを考えてしまう。
大自然の中で暮らしたい夫の気持ちも痛いほど解るから、まあ　その時はついていくしかないなとは覚悟していた。
でも街に近い湘南で古家つきの物件を見つけた時は嬉しくて強引に薦めた。

縁側から海が１８０度見えてその向こうに富士山が美しい。
昭和初期の日本家屋は広々して清々しい。
もっとも冬は寒かったけれど。
「十年　楽しめればいいよね」
って言い合った家に十八年間住んだ。
家は原型を残して最低限の改修を土地の大工さんに頼んだが、荒れていた庭は二人で樹を切り芝生にしたり小さな畑も片隅に作った。

毎朝二時間ばかり裏山を散歩し夕方には浜辺に出掛けた。
魚も野菜も安くて新鮮、つましい生活だったけれど毎日退屈することがなかった。
そのころ気の向くままに描いたスケッチがいっぱい有る。"
